At the beginning of the year in my small grow group we were asked which fruit of the spirit we think we need to work on. As I scanned over the verse, I immediately thought to myself that I need to work on JOY.
I had just completed my master’s degree December 2015 and I am like now what? My job was good, I have benefits, working within my field, all that jazz. At that point in time, I felt that I was going through the motions with work, my relationships and life in general felt mundane. I didn’t like this feeling.
My spiritual journey has not been peaches and cream. As everything in our lives aren’t. It’s so easy for our trails, doubting mindset and people to take away our joy. But I had to get out of that dispiriting mindset. I wanted to challenge myself to intentionally find and seek joy. Will it be easy? Heck no! I’m susceptible to be affected by my environment. However, I was determined to do it. The only blueprint I had is God’s word.
2 Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. 3 Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace]. James 1:2-3 AMP
I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart,
I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.
2 I will be filled with joy because of you.
I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:1-2 NLT
My mission for
this year life is to continue to seek joy in EVERYTHING regardless of the various trails that are thrown at me. Also, to be present, we all can get wrapped up in the future (that’s another post).
I want to challenge you (and myself) and encourage you (also myself) to take this journey with me and find joy in our lives. If you fall off the horse, just get back up. Don’t stay on the ground. Joy is attainable and God did not put us on this earth to be bleak people. Our life here on earth should be nothing short of joyful, regardless of how this world is looking (also a future post).
I read a quote somewhere about JOY that says: Joy is a light that fills you with hope, faith and love.
I find this to be so true and I pray that we intentionally fill ourselves with these characteristics.
*Peace & Joy
